Daily Illuminator Archive for June 2020
June 1, 2020:
Now that it's June, it's really starting to feel like summer, and there's no better way to beat the heat than with some breathable t-shirts in your closet. Our Kickstarter campaign is closing this afternoon, and features many classic game-related designs to rep your favorites throughout the summer and beyond . . .
June 2, 2020:
I have been occupying myself recently in editing David Pulver's excellent Ardonirane
, a 72-page guide to the city of the Thorsz (if you don't remember the Thorsz, he's the ruler who created the Death Test). It's a great collection of People, Places, and the occasional Thing . . .
June 3, 2020:
This is a set of four large identical megahex tiles, each 3 MH long by 2 MH tall. There are also some useful small tiles, since we had space in the corners! . . .

Munchkin heads back to the classroom with a game about fledgling wizards and warlocks learning their craft while avoiding danger at a shockingly violent magical academy. In Munchkin Spell Skool
, three or four people explore the grounds, fight monsters of all shapes and sizes, and collect magical trinkets on their way to graduation (or at least survival) . . .
June 5, 2020:
We are appalled by the murder of George Floyd and the countless other atrocities that have led to the current protests. We have donated - cash, not games - to charities in Austin:
Austin Area Urban League
Austin Justice Coalition
400+1 Bail Fund
If you can, please help your local organizations standing against injustice and racism . . .

June 9, 2020:
Many of the Secret Masters who attended Virtual FnordCon in April have already heard, but now is the time for all to know: Illuminati
, Steve Jackson's classic card game of secret conspiracies trying to take over the world, has achieved transcendence and entered the fully digital world.
is planned as a strategic, card-collecting video game, produced by SJ Games alumnus Derek Pearcy, of Pyramid
Magazine, the In Nomine
RPG – and Illuminati: New World Order
, on which the new game has been based.
The specifics of this ambitious adaptation are still largely under wraps, and the Illuminati really do prize their secrets, though years of research into the modern conspiratorial underbelly of our world has developed far enough that the news is now worth sharing.
There's a short teaser trailer aimed at old fans and new players alike, as well as a longer Fan Announcement, revealing the first details of what you can expect from the new game.
Shown above: Since the original Illuminati came out in 1982, the Soviet KGB has rebranded itself as the FSB, so Illuminati Confirmed will have The Former Soviet Bros, shown here depicted by one of the original INWO artists, Dan Smith.
There will be a Kickstarter for Illuminati Confirmed
later this summer. Before the end of the year, you should have multiplayer, conspiratorial back-stabbing available on Windows and Macs, with other devices still being planned.
Be the first to hear when the Kickstarter will launch, with special rewards for those who get Illuminated early, by entering your email address at www.IlluminatiConfirmed.net . . .
June 10, 2020:
I recently grabbed stock artwork from Fat Goblin Games (Patreon link), Rick Hershey's publishing operation, as well as a map by Dyson Logos, and ran a one-unit test of a puzzle. For a first try at a puzzle, this turned out quite nicely and, as you can tell by the pics, all of the pieces fit together just fine . . .

With the title closing in on the two-decade mark, it's a sign of Robin Law's creativity and skill as a GM that his book of game master guidance, Robin's Laws of Good Game Mastering
, is still available in both print and PDF. The book has found its way to the list of many GMs' "must read" lists, and it is a title that all GMs -- whether new to the art of running RPG sessions or those with decades of experience -- turn to for advice and inspiration . . .
June 15, 2020:
