May 29, 2019: Kickstarter Reports, May Update

Crowdfunding efforts, especially on Kickstarter, are an important part of today's gaming landscape. Kickstarter reported last month that, since its launch, games at the site have accumulated over one billion dollars in pledges. Here at Steve Jackson Games, we've found that Kickstarter is a great way to determine which projects many of you are most interested in, and in an effort to be as transparent as possible, we regularly post an overall report of our active Kickstarter campaigns so you can see exactly where we're at with the open projects. To keep close track of our Kickstarter efforts, we recommend following both the Steve Jackson Games and Warehouse 23 accounts, as well as liking and following our Facebook page.

The Fantasy Trip: Decks of Destiny

  • April 29 to June 3
  • 903 backers and counting
  • This giant expansion to The Fantasy Trip Legacy Edition closes on Kickstarter next week and brings to the game hundreds of new cards, a new playmat, several journals, and a lot of flexibility for those GMs and players who want to dive into preparing and running their own adventures. We're still unlocking stretch goals, so please join the project today to help make the box even heavier with more incredible rewards!

Three Mini-Expansions for Munchkin!

  • March 25 to April 12
  • 1,331 backers and on schedule
  • The three mini-expansions are at print and we're now accepting preorders for those of you who missed out on this campaign. The project is on schedule and we think we're on track to deliver as estimated in the campaign.

Bag of Bags

  • March 31 to April 1
  • 287 backers and on schedule
  • Everything is at print and underway! If you missed out on the project and would like to secure a copy of this classic game accessory, you can preorder today.

Powered by GURPS: Dungeon Fantasy Monsters 2 & Game Reprint

  • March 4 to March 22
  • 1,019 backers and on schedule
  • The tooling samples have arrived and we're now moving into the manufacturing stage for this new GURPS book along with the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game reprint. Preorders are open; the Monsters 2 book is not scheduled for distribution release.

Pocket Box Games of the Eighties

  • January 30 to March 1
  • 1,974 backers and on schedule
  • Scanning continues . . . so much to prepare for print! Sabrina has been putting a lot of hours into checking all of the scans to verify that the work is proceeding as planned. So far, everything is on track! BackerKit preorders are currently open for anyone who missed the campaign.

Hexagram #1, an Old-School RPG Zine for The Fantasy Trip

  • February 1 to February 13
  • 961 backers and on schedule
  • The Hexagram zine has started shipping to Kickstarter backers. We should have all the rewards in the mail before the end of this month.

The Fantasy Trip Adventures

  • January 2 to January 14
  • 1,375 backers and on schedule
  • We've reviewed and approved the tooling samples. We're still on schedule, with the book now in manufacturing at the factory.

Ogre Battlefields

  • December 5 to December 28
  • 1,401 backers and on schedule
  • The project is now on a container ship making its way from the factory to our fulfillment warehouse!

Munchkin Steampunk: Girl Genius

  • November 1 to November 21
  • 2,195 backers and on schedule
  • Many U.S. backers have already received their rewards (ahead of schedule), and we're working on the international paperwork. Everything is moving forward and the Munchkin Steampunk: Girl Genius expansion is announced for retail release in September.

Illuminati Coins

  • October 9 to October 17
  • 722 backers and on schedule
  • Everything has shipped! U.S. backers already have their coins; international backers should see their rewards in the next month or so.

That's a total of 10 active projects.

  • 3 now mailing out to backers.
  • 1 on the ship headed to the warehouse.
  • 5 at the factory.
  • 1 still funding on Kickstarter.

Our increased use of Kickstarter in no way replaces our traditional releases; the crowdfunding projects are a supplement to those games and expansions that we produce using the same method of distribution release and sales that has been the core of our business for decades. Upcoming projects that are being released through the usual distribution channels include:

And that's just our August and September releases! To find these and more games, watch the shelves of your favorite local game store and Warehouse 23.

As for what's next for us on Kickstarter, we have a new Munchkin expansion in the works, something new for the Cthulhu Dice game, more Ogre, more for The Fantasy Trip, and a lot of stuff that we're not yet ready to reveal!
