September 18, 2016: Our Most Proximate Neighbor Has A Family

Scientists have reported the discovery of a planet slightly larger than Earth orbiting in the habitable zone of the red dwarf Proxima Centauri, a little over 4.24 light years from the Sun.

Phil Plait goes into some detail on his blog, Bad Astronomy, about why this is a Really Big Discovery, right in our galactic back yard. He also points out that we won't be taking a holiday trip there any time soon.
